Battlefield 3 Coming This Fall

These days it seems like every month there’s a new major game release which focuses on modernized warfare tactics and weaponry. Much of the credit is given to Activision’s Call of Duty franchise for helping first person shooters make the leap away from WWII and into the modern era. But EA is sure to remind us all that they actually got there first with their Battlefield franchise as they announce the next installment: Battlefield 3. Check out the very Tron Legacy-esque teaser trailer after the jump. Read the rest of this entry »

Have A Geeky Holiday!

When you sit down with your friends and family this year to unwrap presents and enjoy each others company, we hope you’ll remember our family here at Geek Armada.

We wish you a VERY Geeky Holiday, and a Happy New Year!

‘Twas the night before Geekmas, and all through the website
Not a bandwidth was streaming, not even a byte.
The fiber optics were hung by the server with care,
In hopes that St. Geekus soon would be there.

The bloggers were nestled all snug in their cubicals,
While visions of gadgets, video games, and movies danced in their noodles. Read the rest of this entry »

Review: ‘Skyline’

For those out there who said that Skyline was set to be the next District 9, I have two words: For SHAME! Skyline is the brain child of Colin and Greg Strause, who’s only other major directorial work is Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem. They are better known for their visual effects company Hydraulx, which has worked on just about every VFX film from Terminator 3 to Avatar. That would explain the incredible quality of the visual effects in Skyline, unfortunately for the Brothers Strause, VFX does not a great film make. Read the rest of this entry »

Review: RED

Graphic novel adaptations have become very popular with movie studios because making a movie based off a pre-existing intellectual property is a sure fire way to financial success.

But as the practice of adapting graphic novels becomes more common the risk of turning them into bad movies grows. RED is based off the graphic novel of the same name which stands for “Retired, Extremely Dangerous.”

The film stars an ensemble cast of Bruce Willis, Mary-Louise Parker, Karl Urban, John Malkcovich, Morgan Freeman and Helen Mirin with a special appearance by Richard Dryfuss. The story centers on Bruce Willis’s character, Frank Moses, who is a retired CIA operative. A CIA death squad is dispatched to kill him, and after neutralizing every member of the team, Moses sets out to find out why he has become a government target. He picks up Sarah Ross (Mary-Louise Parker) who is a woman he’s been having a telephone relationship with and who doesn’t know he’s a spy. Read the rest of this entry »

NFTC: Are These The Droids We’re Looking For?

When we first saw C-3PO stumbling along that clean white hallway so many years ago, we knew then that the robot before us was pure fantasy; how far we have come.

Today robotics is a part of our lives even if we don’t know it. Robots build our cars, operate our warehouses and enforce our laws. Robots have made many repetitive jobs obsolete as well as making dangerous jobs safer from a distance. In the future, robots will become part of our daily lives. The standard of living we currently enjoy will continue to rise and will one day include the conveniences Read the rest of this entry »

Notes From The Commodore: A Response Letter

Dear internet,

Recently, my good name was viciously attacked by a friend and colleague, L. A. Toms. During the most recent entry of her column, Quest: 100, she reviewed Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner, and made less than complementary comments about me. After reading my fellow columnist’s description of the events, which took place on the day we did, indeed, watch Blade Runner together, I felt the need to set the record straight.

As Toms said, we did in fact sit down together to watch the Read the rest of this entry »

Gourmet Coffee Courtesy Of Mr. Fusion

Ever since Dirk Benedict opened the first Starbuck’s coffee in between acting gigs, gourmet coffee shops have been all the rage with those of us who consider ourselves Cylo – I mean human. I myself often send you impetuous interneters updates from my favorite coffee shop (which I am currently sipping a white mocha in).

The unfortunate thing is, as fun and wonderful as coffee shops are, they are all too often filled with douches, hipsters and the occasional dreaded Read the rest of this entry »

Notes From The Commodore: … And Many More

Age is a relative thing. Today I turn 26, which to me is pretty damned old, but all I have to do is remind myself that my mother now qualifies for the senior citizen discount at IHOP, and I feel a lot younger.

Twenty-six is the most useless age to turn by the way. At 16 I got a driver’s license, at 18 I became an adult, at 21 I could drink and at 25 I could rent a car. But at 26, what can I now do?

Well, I suppose starting a website is my new milestone. But devoting a whole website to my geeky pursuits isn’t exactly the most mature thing Read the rest of this entry »

Notes From The Commodore: Canon Fodder

With so many Halo tidbits flying about the site lately, I felt it appropriate to elaborate on the Reach Controversy I’ve so commonly referred to. If you know what Reach is (an entirely military occupied planet in a secret and strategic location) then you are probably aware of the Eric Nylund novel, The Fall of Reach.

This novel was the first time the Halo Universe had been expanded upon, and it offered readers a rich and vibrant back-story to Halo: Combat Evolved’s protagonist, Master Chief.

Master Chief is Read the rest of this entry »

What’s Up ViDoc?

In a smashing new ViDoc released today we learn bits and pieces about the newest addition to Halo cannon: Noble Team. Who are these elusive and deadly Spartans? This ViDoc aims to answer those questions… at least so far as it serves the player in the game. We meet Carter (Noble One), who is the team leader. His skills will be put to the test for this mission and his team will need him to rise to the occasion. Next up is Cat (Noble Two), the team tech expert. Jun (Noble Three), sniper extraordinaire. Emile (Noble Four), the team hot-head. Jorge (Noble Five), Read the rest of this entry »
